"Sky of fullness, sky of blessed life"
Oct. 24th, 2003 10:29 amThis morning, when I walked out of my house in my happy magenta hat, my pocket scarf, and my badass-muthafucka leather coat, I knew that I had to stop at the Union Square Farmer's Market if it was there. Sure enough, it was, and I took fifteen mental health minutes from the beginning of my workday to saunter through the market.
It's so much different in the morning than in the evening! The energy is high, the tables are overflowing with macoun apples, fresh cut cosmos flowers, zucchini bread, and aloe vera plants. I saw a group of schoolchildren listening to a man talk about organic farming. I listened to a baker ask a long-time customer about her daughter, who is now in school and "is absolutely precious." I watched the autumn light dash through the Square in the spaces in between the buildings, suddenly illuminating people as they walked towards the table loaded with fresh foccacia bread.
I couldn't stop smiling. I still can't. There is so much joy and beauty in this world. Sometimes I love this city so intensely. I want to make a job for myself where I can get up early and find these lively cityscapes everywhere. Where I can eavesdrop on the sudden bursts of organized energy that happen every day on these streets. I never thought I could love this place so much.
and when you live in a world,
it gets into who you thought you would be,
and now I laugh at how the world changed me,
I think life chose me, after all

the chance to love, and to work,
and to play, and
to look up at the stars.
