I had no idea they were turning on those fucking lights again. I stepped out of tonight's writing meeting talking glibly about the movie "Dracula."

Then I looked up and saw one beam of light shooting violently out of the ground, too damn close to me, towering over my head on the convex curve of the sky like a sinister ghost. My hands hit my heart and a breath got stuck in my chest, behind my sternum. It's still stuck there. A heavy cloud sits on my heart. I wish I'd known. I wish I'd been prepared. Damnit.

I walked out onto Flatbush and saw the full moon. Two bright lights in the sky tonight, straddling my home. I don't know what to think, to feel.

The network outage at the office enters Day #3. I'm out of touch with the outside world.

Yesterday, I bought a new window screen. To replace the one that was unintentionally crushed as we clung to the windowsill, staring towards the smoke.

I might have a meltdown tonight. But not before I type my scenes for the day.

the lights must've been an awful shock. i've only seen photos of them, but they'd be overwhelming in person, especially if unexpected.

i'll be thinking of you tomorrow, and some other lj friends in nyc.

Are you writing of the "Tribute in Light?" at the World Trade Center site? I had heard that they planned to turn them back on for one night, but didn't realize they would do so last night (why didn't I notice them???).

Yeah, they were on last night. Not sure why they chose last night, but there they were. And it looked like there was only one light on, actually; I had no idea what was going on with that.
