Quick question: unopened cartridges are safe to go on planes, right?

I can't just go off to Napa and leave my pens here all by their lonesome! They'd be upset to miss the workshop.

Unopened cartridges are fine. If you're taking one to use on the plane, the pen should be either full to the brim (risky, says the woman with the lilac inkstained shirt) or empty. Also, be prepared to show airport security that it's a fountain pen, taking it apart, etc. Some of them get weird and picky.

Hmmm...last time I flew, my rollerball pen leaked like a leaky thing. And then continued to leak when I got home. So I guess I wouldn't chance a fountain pen.
