Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] spicyflower, I just checked my horoscope.

Madalyn Aslan writes: However disappointing your closest relationships may appear at this point, take comfort in the fact that your ruling planet Mercury and a young energetic Moon are both in your first house. This gives you complete say over just about anything. It also means you get your way and that whatever happens early today was meant to happen. Destiny, in short. If these events involve your mother, all the better. Despite the psychedelic Alice-in-Wonderland feeling to it all, you are doing the right thing. Just remember the old adage: be careful of what you wish for, because you will probably end up getting it.

This is a jumble of messages. I wished for a beagle puppy this morning and I wished that I'd earn enough money from the script-writing to be able to quit my job and write full time. If these things are in my near future, I will be a happy woman.

Perhaps the potential roommate was actually a psycho killer.

I am clutching at straws here.

Most likely a crazy. One with lots of knives and a habit of sharpening them on your shoes. (Especially the new Docs).

Also: PUPPY!!!!!

While you're clutching at straws, have you tried roommatefinders.com?

I used roommate finders when I was looking for a place to live, and it worked well -- twice.

Thank you for the reference, but $300 is awfully steep for me right now. I'm going to keep it in the back of my mind, though, in case I come back from Napa without a roommate.

It costs the apartment-hunters $300. It's free for you, to list your room. (At least that is my understanding.)

One benefit for the room-lister (you) is that it helps to weed out the psychokiller element -- the riffraff is less likely to pony up $300 for a room-finding service. (When I was hunting in the late 90's, ah that golden era, it was only $200.)

I never listed a place with Roommate Finders; I was always the homeless, desperate one. But having found two apartments through their service, I can vouch for their non-scariness and general goodwill. Oh, one caveat: they specialize in Manhattan; I don't know if they serve your section of Brooklyn.

I wish you earned a lot of money at script writing, too, but, really, I wish you had a small dog, in an apartment you could live in alone and savor, with a shelf full of good books.
