His questions:
1. You've been given the advance on an unwritten novel you've always dreamed of writing. What is your novel about?
2. An aunt or uncle has an explanation for you of a family matter you've always wondered about. Without delving into the darkness, what is the explanation about?
3. If you could have one thing where you are now that you had in Texas, what would that be?
4. If you starred in one of those 20something indie movies about how hard it is to get a date in the city, what would your movie be called? Would you fall at the end for the best friend you've neglected, or for the rake-ish guy you've been too shy to approach?
5. You're an open-minded person, but I'll bet that isn't a universal thing. What is one thing you're sorry you're close minded about, and why?
1. You've been given the advance on an unwritten novel you've always dreamed of writing. What is your novel about?
Good question! I've always thought of writing short stories, so thinking about a full novel blows my mind. It's probably about a woman coming into her power, both personally and socially/politically. I don't know what the details would be -- how she would come into her own. But that's a fascinating process to me (albeit very self-centered), one that I'd love to explore in a fictional setting.
2. An aunt or uncle has an explanation for you of a family matter you've always wondered about. Without delving into the darkness, what is the explanation about?
Why my father's brother dislikes his family so much.
3. If you could have one thing where you are now that you had in Texas, what would that be?
My family. A close second is Blue Bell Ice Cream, and right behind that is good Tex-Mex.
4. If you starred in one of those 20something indie movies about how hard it is to get a date in the city, what would your movie be called? Would you fall at the end for the best friend you've neglected, or for the rake-ish guy you've been too shy to approach?
Yikes. Maybe it would be called "Watching Paint Dry," or something similarly fascinating. But I think the end of the movie would be much like the ending of "About A Boy," where, rather than just see the two lovers together, we see the small community of people coming together to celebrate a holiday. "Couples are a thing of the past," or something like that.
5. You're an open-minded person, but I'll bet that isn't a universal thing. What is one thing you're sorry you're close minded about, and why?
A difficult question. I still tend to be close-minded/picky about certain foods, and I'm always trying to expand myself in that area, but old habits die hard. I'm strangely and inadvertently close-minded about certain literary or artistic movements (the whole Beat generation thing still escapes my interest). Sometimes I'm aware that I'm probably missing out on some good writing/art, but most of the time, I'm too lazy to dig in and find out.
