I stopped by K-Mart before work (because there are fewer lines in the morning) to buy ten -- count them, ten -- plastic storage tubs for the various papers and supplies that I'm re-storing in my room. I'm in the middle of an intense, look-at-everything-and-throw-as-much-out-as-I-possibly-can, cleaning. I shlepped the storage tubs into work, and now they're sitting twelve feet away from me, in the office in front of my desk. Every time I catch a glimpse of them, my left brain whispers happily, "I get to organize tonight!" My whole day looks forward to the 7 o'clock hour, when I throw away, reorganize, and shove five years of (still useful) deitritus far under my bed.

Date: 2003-05-28 11:41 am (UTC)It would be more accurate to say that only part of my detritus lives under my bed. I have yet to tackle the pile beside my computer desk downstairs... Seriously, though, as I was sitting on my bed, contemplating all of it, I realized proudly (says she, holding up her "Former Packrat" Card) that I've done fairly well at not accumulating too many things in the past three or four years. I'm a little mystified by this. Perhaps I'm better at hiding them from myself than I think.
My right brain wants to talk to your left brain.
When I was little, I used to eat M&Ms and Skittles by biting two different colors in half, then mixing the halves up and squishing them together to create a two-toned candy. This is what I imagined when I read this line.
I think I need a vacation. Or a pen and a lot of paper. Maybe both.
