1st Saturdays
May. 4th, 2003 12:01 amCG and I just got back from the Brooklyn Museum of Art. They have a great series called First Saturdays. On the first Saturday of every month, the museum is open from 11am-11pm, and they offer lots of cool, free activities in the evenings. Tonight, they had several movie screenings, and a great dance party.
When
freak1c and I visited the Brooklyn Museum of Art a while back, we stood at the marble railing overlooking a big court and decided that it would be the perfect spot for a hot dance party. Dude, I wish you could have seen this. We totally called it.
DJ Neva was spinning hot Middle Eastern pop tunes and Afro-beats in the Beaux-Arts Court -- and everyone was there. People of every race, every age (there were some ten-year-old girls tearing up the dance floor), every sexual orientation -- and all of us were having a great time. There wasn't an ugly face in the crowd, because everyone was smiling, expressing themselves, enjoying the great energy. I have never seen such a beautiful dance party. You can bet I'll be there in June, wearing better dancing shoes and a skirt. I wish it ran later than 11pm. It made me so happy to be there.
I love Brooklyn. At its best, this place is a vision of goodness and truth. I wish y'all could have seen it.
