Nov. 4th, 2002 10:03 pmI'm annoyed that Comedy Central's new ad campaign has stolen the old 7-Up catch phrase: "You Like It. It Likes You." Growing up, looking at all the 7-Up signs that my mom collects, I always laughed at the idea of a fountain drink liking me and my digestive system. I thought it was a clever phrase for a simple, agreeable soda.
Now Comedy Central uses the phrase in their not-too-funny series of ads. I guess the copyright for the 1950s 7-Up ads has lapsed, which is why Comedy Central can get away with using the phrase now.
I'm also a little sad, because it occurs to me that very few people will ever notice this, and because the phrase means so much to me.
