Sticky Date Heaven
Jan. 30th, 2007 12:44 pmOh my God, people. Last night, I made Sticky Date Pudding for dessert, topped with caramel sauce and ice cream. Our apartment building had an around-the-world dinner evening: drinks in one place, appetizers in another, and so on. It's a small building so it worked really well.
I signed us up for dessert so I'd have an excuse to make this outrageously rich and delicious dessert. We discovered it on our honeymoon, at an historic inn that served abundant three course meals that stuffed us every night. When I first saw it on the menu, I thought, "Ew, date pudding?" But then we tried it. And, oh man, it is good. The consistency is like moist cake or gingerbread, and the warm caramel sauce drizzled on top is scrumptious. We had it for dessert almost every night we were there. And of course we snagged the recipe.
Everyone loved it last night, and I was proud that I didn't candy the sauce accidentally by cooking it too long, like I did the first time we made it. People even asked for seconds! (Including a woman, which I count as an extra compliment because, too often, women get all finicky about having dessert at all because of the fat, etc., blah blah blah.)
Of course, there were leftovers... and I just warmed a piece in the microwave. MY GOD. It is so, so good. I wish I could squish some through the ethernet port and send it out to y'all on this LJ.

Date: 2007-01-31 07:06 pm (UTC)Then I made some kickass pistachio ice cream at the restaurant and got the brilliant idea to pair the two and oh my god. It was like heaven in my mouth. There was a week where I had a small helping of both for breakfast three days in a row. Oh so yummy. I do recommend trying pistachio ice cream with it though ; )
