Poems Coming Down

It's kind of embarrassing to say this, but I just realized this morning that my long-time habit of posting other people's poetry on my LJ is straight-up copyright infringement. Yeah, kind of tacky, as I'm quickly becoming a professional writer myself and I should know better. D'oh! So I'll be taking down all of the poems and stop posting them from here on out.

I know that many of you love reading the poems that I post, so have no fear -- most of them are from the daily Writer's Almanac, which you can subscribe to here. It's a fantastic newsletter anyway; anyone with an interest in literature, history, and poetry should sign up.

Ah, the learning curves of life.

aw, isn't there some kind of limited use with credit given type of clause you can invoke? (or just friend them? is that unethical?) I look at it like music downloading - you're actually MORE likely to buy the item after sampling.

Anyway, I understand. Just wanted to yawp.

I'm really glad you thought of this -- I've wanted to mention it but felt mean... as a published writer, I'm extra sensitive about copyright... But I don't know what are the laws and protocol about the web and personal blogs. (does anyone!?) I know I'd be nervous about having an entire poem of mine posted in a journal other than my own. That's nice that you posted the link to Writer's Almanac. I usually catch it on the radio when I'm out and about in the car!

i had no idea. i mean--you always give the writer credit..don't you? and you're not making any money off of posting things here....are you? and you're not changing them....

do you have a link to this law? i'd love to read up on it because i'm evidently ignorant!
