Funky dream
Jan. 23rd, 2006 09:45 amI walked into the bathroom at my workplace, and there were stalls, but also a toilet out in the open. I assumed it was just a one-toilet bathroom, so I sat down on the non-stalled toilet and did my business.
As I was, uh, finishing, another woman walked into the bathroom and gave me a funny look. When I stood up, I realized that I'd been sitting on a washing machine. I couldn't believe it, but I suddenly realized that my feet hadn't been able to touch the ground when I was sitting, so it must be true. I tried to flush the machine, but the toilet/washer overflowed with water. I was totally embarrassed. The other women now in the bathroom told me that I had to call someone about this. I picked up the phone (in the bathroom?) and called the operator.
Soon, a young woman came up and asked me what the problem was. I told her and she was very kind. She sent out for someone else to help, and we stood there by the machine together. She was really friendly, and so I leaned forward and said, "I can't believe this happened... but I was really sleepy and unaware, and I sat down on this machine and thought it was a toilet. Can you believe that?" She seemed amused.
Then I woke up. I just realized all the women in this dream were black women. I have no idea what that means, except that my sister and I were just last night discussing how we miss living in a place that was pretty evenly diverse: 25% black, 25% white, 25% Hispanic, and 25% Asian. I mean, NYC is diverse, but, you know, these groups don't always talk to each other. And Lord knows my college was pretty bright.
Anyway.
