Downsides to the freelance life
Nov. 16th, 2005 08:38 amI placed two articles about amazing, interesting women that I'm excited to talk with--this is a great thing!
However, amazing, interesting women tend to be very very busy. So, yesterday morning, I woke up early and sat down at my computer at 7:30 for a scheduled interview... and the woman had her cell phone off. She realized this an hour later. Okay. An earlier morning than I would have liked, but no problem. We rescheduled for 1. (It was a great interview.)
And the subject of the article that is due this Friday (oh, two days from now) has no voicemail, no assistant, and hasn't responded to the e-mails I've sent since last Monday. I finally contacted a colleague who kindly printed out my e-mail and taped it to the woman's office door.
So now, I wait. I know that if she calls and gets my voicemail, I'll never hear from her again and the article will be shot. So I reschedule my doctor's appointment, have a friend walk the dog, and I wait by the phone, like a girl at home on a Saturday night before cell phones were invented. (Did I mention my cell phone is dead, too?)
This is a little crazy-making. I know I'm still new at this, and I'm sure I'll get used to it. Also, my new cell phone should arrive today, making things much easier. But damn! Craziness!
[edit 11:57 a.m. --- Oh yeah. Ye Olde Mercury Retrograde. Of course. This is just a test of my ability to chill out and let go, huh? I hate that.]

I love you and I do need to chat with you, but it can wait until things are more under control! I love you and wish you luck, but you don't need any luck because you are pure talent!!!
