Desires: 14 October 2005
Oct. 14th, 2005 11:33 amOccasionally, I make a list of desires, at the suggestion of Mama Gena. Usually, I post these privately, but today, I feel like sharing them. Please feel free to comment with your desires. Put them out into the world. Who knows how they will be answered?
~ ~ ~
I want to be a MacArthur Fellow sometime in my life. I want to receive their Genius Grant.
I want to create a magical story with fantastical elements that twist and twirl the brain into new configurations, releasing powerful creative energy in the reader/viewer.
I want to write a book.
I want a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch.
I want to wear a gorgeous red wedding dress without disrespecting or causing trauma to my family or CL's family.
I want to howl at the moon and love my inner wild woman.
I want to live like a prism, shattering light into a million rainbows, casting glory into the world.
I want a non-exploitative part-time job that pays $40 an hour.
I want to serve my fellow humans with my whole self.
I want to take a nap.
I want to live deeply and with great humor, on all apparent and non-apparent levels.
I want new, comfortable casual shoes.

Date: 2005-10-14 04:59 pm (UTC)In my experience, a freelancer editor gets a chunk of manuscript from a publisher (either an entire work or sample chapters), is given directives and questions from a publisher to work from, and sets into the manuscript to help the author shape his vision and fix any large holes or errors (not a proofreader, mind, though it doesn't hurt to shape up your author's grammar-- this isn't line editing) so that the author can proceed apace with the rest of (or second draft of) his book. Granted, I work in textbooks, so this might not be freelance at the big houses, but I'd bet they've got something like that. You'd need publishing experience (in-house, likely) under your belt to really be able to pull off landing that kind of job, though.
The editors I work with generally were in the business for a little bit and then went freelance.

Date: 2005-10-14 04:10 pm (UTC)isn't red considered good luck in Asia?
and white the color for funerals?
you could write your own ceremony,
based on those facts.
ps: i want a grilled cheese with tomatoe. but i'll
probably settle for a Swiss & Shroom Burger at Burger
Sling!
