In high school, we had to write a research paper on a historical figure, and I chose Edward Hopper. I still love his work.

The Writer's Almanac commemorates his birthday today, and they share this quote of his: "Maybe I am slightly inhuman ... All I ever wanted to do was to paint sunlight on the side of a house."

Sounds divine to me. No wonder I connected with his work so well.

Thanks for sharing. He is, of course, one of my favorites.

i love edward hopper!!! he captures isolated americana at its very best. i find that i've been thinking about him often during this trip [we're in ohio right now], considering the many byways [rather than interstates] we've gone through.
