It's been a few months, and we've watched a lot of movies (28), so it's time for Part Four of my movie recommendations (aka Keeping Track for Myself):

Part One is here.
Part Two is here.
Part Three is here.

The Good, The Bleh, and The Ugly

Good = anywhere from "Boy Howdy, that was great!" to "This film will stay with me for life."
Bleh = anywhere from "Ho hum" to "Several scenes offended me."
Ugly = anywhere from "AWFUL and useless" to "Didn't even watch the whole thing."
* = highly recommended!

The Good
*The Office Special
The Waterboy
Jersey Girl
*Wait Until Dark
*The Weather Underground
Angel: Season 4: Disc 6 (all watched in the span of 1 1/2 weeks)
Angel: Season 4: Disc 5
Angel: Season 4: Disc 4
*Breakfast at Tiffany's
The Accused
Norma Rae
*Menace II Society
*Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Vol. 1: Disc 2
Angel: Season 2: Disc 6
Angel: Season 2: Disc 5
Angel: Season 2: Disc 4
*Control Room
*Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

The Bleh
Enough
Full Frontal
Angel: Season 4: Disc 3
Angel: Season 4: Disc 2
Angel: Season 4: Disc 1

The Ugly
Catwoman (You have to try really hard to make Halle Berry in leather BORING, and yet they managed it!)
Under the Tuscan Sun
The Big Lebowski (We tried, people, we really tried, but we could not get into it.)
The Royal Tenenbaums

~ ~ ~

The theme of this list is... "Angel"! Yes, we underwent a period of heavy "Angel"-watching. Please note that this list doesn't reflect the entire Season 3 that I watched obsessively while in California with my sister.

Also, I notice that once we determined a movie was terrible, we usually didn't watch the whole thing. We either fast-forwarded through the dull bits (ie. Catwoman) or just scrapped the enterprise altogether (The Big Lebowski and The Royal Tenenbaums). Our time is far too precious to waste on movies that don't grab me within the first 45 minutes.

I'm not too surprised that I didn't like "The Big Lebowski," mostly because I'm not a huge Coen Brothers fan, and also because most of my friends spoke so highly of it for years. I knew it could never meet up to their praise. I was surprised that I wasn't hooked by "The Royal Tenenbaums," because I love Owen Wilson, and I adored "Rushmore." It happens, I suppose.

Loved that Catwoman review.

I'm crushed at you're calling Tenenbaums ugly. It had me when Mordecai flew off in the opening.

I'm over it now though :)

the best thing about Full Frontal were the breakdancing nazis..those guys completely stole the movie.

I think the Royal Tennenbaums deserves another chance and a full-viewing. Perhaps give it some time, a year or so, and give it another go.

And, I'd like to share a two thumbs up for The Weather Underground. It's an amazing film about a time I new very little about. I watched it in class last semester and I kept thinking about it so much that I got on the wait list at the library, made Tim watch it and watched it again with commentary. I didn't get through all the extra features though. I should probably just buy it.

(It looks like we'll be down on Saturday...look forward to seeing you.)
