Shower Meme 2005 #1:
curmudgeon
May. 9th, 2005 03:04 pmAnd here we go! For those new to the Shower Meme, it's an interview/get-to-know-each-other meme. Anyone who would like me to interview them, please respond with "interview me."
curmudgeon's questions:
1. Do you thrive on deadline pressure, or does it drive you mad?
2. Does Mister help you work?
3. Where does your LJ username come from?
4. You're 75 years old and you're being interviewed for a documentary. What did you do to become the kind of person who's featured in a documentary?
5. If for some reason you couldn't live in New York, where would you go?
1. Do you thrive on deadline pressure, or does it drive you mad?
I used to be bothered by it, thinking that I needed endless time to work best, without outside pressures. But then last week happened, and I found myself barreling through seven interviews and a 250-word article in 48 hours, and I liked it! Having that deadline really cut through any head games I was trying to play with myself about “oh, I can’t do this!” or “oh, I’m such a failure!” It became very simply about editor waiting for my work, and I could not let her down. Although I don’t want to write every piece with that kind of short notice, I think that a quick blast of adrenaline is useful for my productivity.
2. Does Mister help you work?
If by “work” you mean “sleep,” then yes… Actually, he’s not all that bad. When I sit at the table and work, he usually lies on his side by my feet. When I move around the apartment, he often sticks close to me, even if I’m wandering from room to room doing things. I like to think of him as my fuzzy, orange muse. Of course, if I’m feeling even slightly tempted to take a break or a nap, he sees my weakness and pounces. On Friday, I was having a slow afternoon, and I heard him burst into solo play behind me. I turned around and he was so cute that I couldn’t resist playing with him. I threw his toy and he caught it, then he immediately jumped up onto the bed/couch with the toy in his mouth, curled into an easily-spoonable ball, and looked up at me with big eyes. He tricked me!
3. Where does your LJ username come from?
Patty Larkin’s song “River.” I love the song and the album “Regrooving the Dream.” The song paints a picture of a solitary woman and her dog wandering a green, slightly sad landscape. The specific lyrics are:
They ran in between shadows of green
and gossamer wings
while the sun set bravely.
4. You're 75 years old and you're being interviewed for a documentary. What did you do to become the kind of person who's featured in a documentary?
Good question! I’m a writer, perhaps an influential and popular feminist writer, or a screenwriter well known for writing complex and amazing roles for powerful women. Maybe I’ve just finished my 550th journal and they’re being donated to a women’s library. Or maybe it’s about my dedication to making a difference in the everyday ways that I could.
5. If for some reason you couldn't live in New York, where would you go?
Ah,
schpahky asked this question too, so instead of just referring you to my response to her and leaving it at that, I’ll talk about what I want the apartment or house to look like in the place outside of New York that I’d live. I want a big backyard where I can garden and dig in the dirt. I want a study all to myself, where I can hang things on the wall and not have to take them down at the end of the day to turn the room back into a common area. I want a bay window with a deep seat to dream in. I want a view of the sky. I want a big living room with plenty of room for rockin’ out on the air guitar or dancing like a gypsy. I want a bedroom with a tall ceiling. I want a washer and dryer, either a free one in the building or one in the apartment. I want a porch or a stoop where I can sit and say hello to neighbors as they walk by. I want to live in a place where people walk on the sidewalks, not where people only get around by car.

Date: 2005-05-09 07:52 pm (UTC)2. Would you rather wash the dishes or vacuum? Unload any baggage about either of these, please.
3. Will you explain to me, in layman's terms, what you're studying?
4. Name one thing that Ry does that charms your socks off.
5. Why did you choose your username?
Post the answers to these questions in your journal, and watch the interview spread! I like this meme, because it makes me think hard about myself in unexpected ways, and I get to find out cool things about my LJ friends.
