Hairstylist Question

Today, I'm getting a free haircut from a stylist at a fancy schmancy salon university here in the city. The cut would usually cost $85-$100, but since she's a student being retrained in the salon's techniques, it's free.

My question is: do I tip? (I'm assuming that yes, I do.) How much?

Yeah, right? The cheapest, halfway decent haircut I can find in this city costs $40. It sucks!

I agree. I would tip at the same rate as if I had paid for the haircut, 15%-20% of the presumed cost. But then, I get my hair cut once a year at Louis Licari, which costs me $125 plus tip, and is worth every penny,

I have joined the cabal of the superexpensive superwonderful haircut. Twice a year at $90 plus tip - sheesh. But oh, how splendidly it grows in! And, it's just a much much nicer experience overall.

I've worked under the principle 15% is the usual tip for decent service - 20% if its outstanding. So, since it would have cost you a minimum of $85 'normally', I'd say a $20 would be fair.

I say $15 if it's good - that's close to 15% if you were paying.

Hmm, photos... It's a fine cut, but still not exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to let it settle for a couple of days, and then, if it's photo-worthy, I'll post some. For now, I'm still a leetle ambivalent.

OK, so I didn't get in on the act 'cause I was at work. I would've said $20 if it is a great cut, $10 if it is so so. So....how's it look? Hope you're happy with it! Annie
