[livejournal.com profile] freak1c found this link today to DC's National Museum of Women in the Arts:

How did I not know this existed, and so close to where I've been living for the last eight years? Looking through the museum's catalog actually brings tears to my eyes. I can't explain it, but, somehow, knowing that an entire museum dedicated to women artists exists makes me feel good. I want very much to visit it.

What a cool museum. One of our major disappointments here has been that the wonderful Texas Women's Museum has not done well at all, although it is fabulous. I wish Texas had a museum more along the lines of this one in DC.

That museum is in the building next door to my office building.

I've only been there once, for a Judy Chicago exhibition. Their permanent galleries are disappointingly small and waste a lot of space (in other words, lots of wide open spaces with few walls for hanging paintings and no sculptures set around).

But, like you, I think it's a terrific concept and I enjoy going there for special exhibitions. The gift shop is also very good.
