Very connected
Dec. 7th, 2004 08:22 amI'm feeling very connected to the world today. I'm experiencing many small yet significant coincidences already this morning: as I open the fridge this morning, I see the word "Erivan" on a carton of sour cream, and Yerevan is the BPAL fragrance that I noted last night. The word glows a little with the repetition. This morning, I open The Writer's Almanac and the poem of the day is by Billy Collins, and it's about the potential of a plane crashing. Last night, I mentioned to CL about the fact that I needed to write the Christmas 2004 version of my "will," the sealed letter with all my last words of love that I leave behind when I make big trips, in case something happens. And then, as I scan the birthdays in the Almanac, as I read these words about Willa Cather's 1922 novel, "...and instead went off to fight in World War I," I hear the words, "...G.I. Joe doll for kids" coming from the radio upstairs in the bedroom.
All of these little moments of synchronicity comfort me immensely in the darkness of this winter, telling me that I am still a conduit for life's impulses, even though the light is closing in and the night is long.
