THANK YOU NEW JERSEY!!!
Nov. 29th, 2004 10:10 pmI WON! I WON! I WON!!! The novel is finished! In 15 days of writing, I won the NaNoWriMo challenge! YES!!!! And I even came up with a clever title at the very last minute of writing it: "The Welcoming Back." (Five points on an imaginary point system to the person who can correctly identify its source.)
Later, I will read it and see if there's even 5000 words worth keeping, but now, I CELEBRATE!

How can this not involve the Sweathogs and Gabe Kaplan?

Sometimes I forget we're not from the same generation!
The 70s TV show "Welcome Back, Kotter" starred Gabe Kaplan as a teacher who, as I recall, returned to his old high school to teach a bunch of reprobate teenagers known as The Sweathogs. One of the Sweathogs was Vinnie Barbarino, played by a newly discovered actor named John Travolta who soon became a teen heart-throb. The theme song "Welcome Back" was a big hit, by John Sebastian, formerly of The Lovin' Spoonful.
