I'm back from Josh and Jane's wedding weekend in Duck, North Carolina. It was beautiful. I'm tan, I'm relaxed, I'm happy, I'm in love, and I am engaged with the world around me. Today, I'm finding it incredibly difficult to re-enter my world of Things to Do and Accomplish. I simply want to sit on the shore and let the sun open my soul, ray by ray. The lure of the beach life is strong. I want to go back.

For several summers when I was a child, I spent almost every day in the water, at the pool or at our local waterpark, in the Gulf. I loved exerting myself against the water, pretending I was the Little Mermaid, Jacques Cousteau, an Olympic swimmer. One of my favorite things was to lay in bed at the end of the day, exhausted from swimming, my skin holding the warmth from the sun. And even when I was still, just before sleep, I could still feel the motion of the water around me. I fell asleep as if I were on the safest raft in the middle of the ocean, held up by the powerful water, rocked gently into my dreams.

As she fell asleep, her head on his chest, her body felt his breath rising and falling, and she dreamed she was in the ocean again, giving her body over to the salt water that would lift her on its waves.
