The light by my desk has gone out. It's been shorting out recently, but I've always been able to jiggle it in just the right way for it to turn back on. But today, no such luck. Also, one of my bosses just asked me to undo and then redo a (small) mailing that I did this morning. Because they changed the letter. AHHH-gain.

I feel a little bit like Milton from "Office Space" today.

Edit -- 2:25pm. I just took the lamp in both hands and shook it with great vigor. And it came back on. Ha!

As long as your paychecks don't just stop without warning.

Wait -- that's not supposed to happen?

Well, if you work for a non-profit, the checks keep coming, but their size convinces you they don't exist.

I have! When I finally watched it all the way through, I realized that I'd seen most of it, just in bits and pieces here and there.

"I just took the lamp in both hands and shook it with great vigor. And it came back on."

my dad, a new yorker, would do this all the time...and miraculously, it worked more often than not...

he calls this method of "shaking with great vigor" the "New York Way of fixing things"...

once you've accomplished this technique, you know that you've become acclimated to the city...this said, of course, with the assumption that you've already learned the "proper" way of pronouncing "Dog".

If we're talking the Lon Guyland way of pronouncing dog, then yes, yes I have become acclimated to the city. I can't even figure out how to spell that version. dzoag? dsoh-ag? I give up.

My father tells a story... (well, he tells a lotta stories, but this is one...):

When he was in the hospital in the ICU after his heart surgery, he was lying in bed one night when he realized that one of the many machines he was attached to stopped blipping. Huh. Seconds after it stopped, a nurse ran in. She looked at him. She looked at the machine. She gave the machine a good whack. The machine began blipping again and she left...

hahaha! If I'd been in that situation, I don't know if I would have laughed or been really, really nervous. That's a great story!
