I've stopped complaining about the cold when I talk to my family down in Texas. Now, when they ask about it, I speak with wonder in my voice. Yes, it is very cold. Yes, it has been below the freezing mark for over a week. Yes, the entire park is covered by a crackling layer of slick ice. Yes, this is the coldest weather I've ever experienced. I told my mom about the frozen dog pee in the park's snow/ice, and she joked, "Does their pee freeze as it's coming out?" I told her it doesn't take much longer than that.

Yesterday morning, on my walk to the subway, I saw a fast food cup full of orange juice that had been dropped on the sidewalk. The orange juice didn't spill very far from the glass before it froze and crystallized. The unexpected orange patch on the white ground made me smile. I didn't even think about how cold it must be to make such a thing happen.

I hope all of my LJ friends in the cold climates are staying warm.

In other news, I feel like I'm neglecting my LJ right now. I know that I go through these cycles of feeling like I'm posting too much, too often, and then I drop off and find myself busily occupied by the non-LJ world. So this is mostly a note to myself that I'm in the waning part of my LJ cycle, and to remember to drop in here and say hello to all of the people who read these words. I may not be commenting a lot, but I'm reading, and holding you all in my heart and my thoughts.

This LJ thing is a curious thing. I think you have to just do what seems right to you, and not worry about it at all.

I think you're right -- and your words apply well to Life, too.

This will come out sounding all wrong, but I thought of you a few days ago when I had to step over a frozen puddle of vomit.

bwhaha!

That's started my day off well. So I've become the Observer of All Frozen Street Liquids. I don't mind that at all. :)

This is one of the coldest winters I've experiences, and I'm from here, but I just thankful that the winter of 2001-2002 was mild. At least now, there are subways and buses near.

I've wondered about what more experienced NYC residents think about this cold. And indeed, I'm glad that 2001-2002's winter was mild. It still felt cold, but at least the inner cold wasn't reinforced by extreme temperatures like this year.

BTW, I can tell you how long it takes dog pee to freeze.

:) I'm curious -- do you have the exact time??

No, and it depends on the night. However, if Morgan pees and we pass the same spot 3-4 minutes later, it's a frozen pee puddle. I can also tell you that some of my neighbors seem to confuse sand, whci is good to bury things in and dries things out, with snow, which does not share the same characterics. Those confused neighbors doen't pick up doo, which freezes solid in a matter of a few hours or less.
